A middle-aged woman with a heavy methamphetamine addiction faced charges of supplying methamphetamine and related dishonesty charges. Following appropriate counselling and a negotiation to reduce charges​, the client was able to avoid a prison sentence and was reunited with her family and children.

A Vietnamese national was charged with being a party to the importation of over 10 kilograms of methamphetamine. After being told by a Judge that he was looking at a 17-year starting point for sentence, the defendant proceeded to a three-week High Court trial, where he was found not guilty on all charges he faced.

A 26-year old was charged with selling and growing cannabis after phone intercepts revealed dozens of commercial transactions over a one-month period. After negotiating a resolution of the charges, the defendant applied for a discharge without conviction in the District Court, which was declined. Notwithstanding the defendant did not have a permanent job, he appealed and was granted a discharge without conviction in the High Court on the basis of general consequences to his future.

A Malaysian couple were charged with importing methamphetamine and possession for supply after 2 kilograms of the drug was located at apartment they were renting. Bail was obtained against strong Crown opposition for both defendants. Following a resolution of the charges, the male defendant received a final sentence of 6 years 8 months’ imprisonment with no minimum period of imprisonment imposed, while the female defendant had her charges reduced to “permitting premises” and thereby avoided a prison sentence.
